Kiddie Academies “Link Up” for Kindness

Kiddie Academy locations nationwide teamed up to perform more than 3,000 good deeds to help celebrate National Random Acts of Kindness Day on February 17. Our total, to date, is 3,368 acts of kindness!

Each year, the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation heads up the celebration of Random Acts of Kindness Week with the goal of making kindness the norm for the way we treat others. Random Acts of Kindness Day falls mid-week in the celebration schedule, encouraging participants to do a kind deed for someone, however small or large.

“Participating in Random Acts of Kindness Week meant a lot to our families here at Kiddie Academy of Asheville. Our students participated in random acts of kindness in their home as well inside their classrooms, and parents were so excited to partner with us on our kindness projects,” shared Director Shayla Gregory.

On Random Acts of Kindness Day and every day, the children in our care are encouraged to practice kindness through our Character Essentials curriculum. Participating Academies encouraged students to perform acts of kindness for family, friends, and their communities. For each kind act, students added a “kindness link” to their Academy’s kindness chain, with a description of their kind act written on the link. The scope of kind acts included everything from tidying up toys at home, helping feed class pets, sharing, thanking teachers and making cards for friends.

“The kindness campaign is one of the highlights at our Academy. This year we put our emphasis on the community, as well as our school, and our children really got into doing special projects to make others happy,” shared Director Jeannie Wells from Kiddie Academy of Birmingham.

Showing Kindness in Creative Ways

Academies found unique ways extend kindness outside of their classrooms and into their greater communities. At Kiddie Academy of Robbinsville in NJ, parents, students and teachers collected over 100 food items for a local food bank, Rise Food Pantry. Students at Kiddie Academy of Alpharetta in GA made 140 Valentine’s Day cards as part of a regional Valentine’s for Veterans program. Across the country, Academies rallied around making cards for nurses, donating meals to essential workers, sending greetings to nursing home residents, raising funds for life-threatening childhood illnesses, and many other community outreach efforts.

“Random Acts of Kindness Week ties into everything Kiddie Academy stands for because it teaches children to be kind, a good friend, a good citizen, and so much more,” said Franchisee Hajira Khan, owner of two Academies in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

As an added layer to celebrate the kindness of students across the country, the national Kiddie Academy corporate office held a special, charitable contest. Congratulations to Kiddie Academy of West Cary, which was randomly chosen to receive a $500 donation to the charity of their choice, Read and Feed of Cary, NC. Read and Feed works to strengthen literacy skills among under-served elementary school children and provide meals in a nurturing neighborhood environment. Read and Feed serves approximately 630 local children each year.

On learning that her Academy won the contest, Assistant Director Smita Bedi of Kiddie Academy of West Cary shared, “We are so excited to be able to support Read and Feed. For us, kindness is about ‘seeing with your heart.’ We must nurture kindness in children from a very young age. Acknowledging and appreciating children while they are doing these kind acts helps them think about their behavior and builds good values in them.”
